A bus driver working during January for the U.S. Milwaukee County Transit System pulled over for a midnight break when she noticed a 5-year-old boy, alone, and without winter clothes or shoes.

“He came out of nowhere out of nowhere. I just happened to look over and heard him crying and he was just running up Center,” said driver Denise Wilson.
The incident was caught on surveillance inside the bus and shared by the Transit System. It shows Wilson calmly walking off the empty bus and returning with the boy in her arms. She provided the unnamed boy with a warm cost and food, then informed the police and waited for them to arrive.
“I’m a child of God, and a lot of times we try to do what’s right when we see something happening, and if we’re there to help and have the ability or means to do it, that’s what we’re supposed to do, so I don’t look at it as being a hero just being there to help,” Wilson later said.
Local police stated that the boy “wandered away from home by mistake” during 28 January, where temperatures ranged from 22°F (-5.5°C) to a high of 31°F (-0.5°C).
